Barren County Fiscal Court receives over $400K for bridge preservation project

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has announced $6.5 million is being awarded to support 13 bridge projects in Kentucky, including in Barren County.

The Barren County Fiscal Court will receive $439,316 for a bridge preservation project on Matthews Mill Road that has a posted weight limit, officials say.

“Bridges link more than roads; they link Kentuckians to the places that matter most like school, work or health care,” Beshear said. “This program keeps local bridges in a good state of repair so they can remain in service as safe and efficient connections for the families, first responders and businesses that rely on them.”

In particular, the governor’s office says the Barren County project will extend the life of the bridge by protecting the beams from further corrosion and ensuring a safe route for school buses.

“We are so excited to be able to take that money to increase the longevity of this rural road in Barren County that’s highly traveled and has a huge impact on the community,” said county judge-executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.

Additional awards include $530,747 to Lyon County Fiscal Court, $1.1 million to Woodford County Fiscal Court.
