Barren County elementary schools take top honors at Governor’s Cup Regional 8 meet

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Congratulations are in order for several members of the Barren County Schools district.
According to a release by the district Tuesday, elementary academic teams from local schools in the area competed in the Region 8-fourth and fifth grade Governor’s Cup Academic Competition. The district says competitions took place Saturday, Feb. 28 at Hiseville Elementary.
The overall Governor’s Cup Region 8 Champion was North Jackson Elementary School
In team competitions, the results for Quick Recall for Barren County Schools were:
- North Jackson Elementary: first place.
- Park City Elementary: seventh place.
- Austin Tracy Elementary: eighth place.
The individual results for Barren County students in Region 8 were as follows:
Mathematics
- Second place – Grayson Barrett (North Jackson Elementary)
- Third place – Emily Jiang (North Jackson Elementary)
- Fifth place – Malcolm Wessling (North Jackson Elementary)

Hiseville Elementary was the host site for the event, with Dinah Wallace, serving as the Contest Manager from Barren County Schools, coordinating the event and working with all schools to facilitate the day. Ellen Blevins served as Chief Official, and John Alexander was the Head Scorekeeper. A special thanks to all the HVE staff for their service before, during, and after the event; to the coaches and parents for working with the children to prepare for the competition; and to the countless other volunteers for assisting during the week of the competition.
Middle School Governor’s Cup Region 5 – 2025
Barren County Middle School competed in the Region 5 Governor’s Cup. The BCMS team tied for 5th place in Quick Recall, received 5th place honors in Future Problem Solving, and placed 4th in the overall final standings. Korbyn Basham placed 2nd in Mathematics, Stephen Miller placed 2nd in Science, Lilly Martin placed 5th in Language Arts, and Presley Johnson placed 3rd in Composition. Congratulations to BCMS on a great Academic Team season.
High School Governor’s Cup Region 4 – 2025
Barren County High School recently participated in the highly competitive Region 4 Governor’s Cup, tying for 5th place overall and 3rd place in Future Problem Solving. Among the standout performers, Brady Cook earned 3rd place in social studies. The successful Academic Team season reflects the hard work and talent of both the students and their educators at BCHS.
