Backpack giveway held Saturday afternoon at local library
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Summer hasn’t even arrived, but the Warren County Public Library, with some help from the Early Childhood Council, was busy helping make sure incoming kindergarten students had what they needed to start their school career right.
Library employees handed out Readiness On the Run backpacks to parents on a first-come, first-serve basis Saturday afternoon. Four hundred backpacks were available between the main branch and the Bob Kirby branch of the library and every backpack was claimed within about 15 minutes.
The backpacks include school supplies, educational books that appeal to kindergarten-age children and educational games.
Veronica Rainwater, the youth services manager for the library, says the prolonged closure of the Warren County Public Library due to COVID-19 has made it difficult for her not to be able to interact with the young library patrons, and she felt Saturday’s event was good for both herself and the children who visited the library.
The backpacks were handed out along the library’s curbside to encourage social-distancing.
