Authorities release identity of body found in Madisonville City Park lake

MADISONVILLE, Ky. – Authorities in Hopkins County released the identity of a body found on Tuesday.

On Sept. 22 at approximately 12:50 p.m., the MPD officers responded to Madisonville City Park after two men fishing reported a possible body floating in the lake behind the city swimming pool.

According to the release, MPD officers located the body at the far side of the lake. The Madisonville Fire Department assisted in the retrieval of the body.

On Sept. 23, MPD identified the victim as Jerry Skaggs.

MPD spoke with witnesses who interacted with Skaggs the day before his body was discovered and with family members.

According to the release, no foul play is suspected and Skaggs’ death “appears to be a tragic accident.”

MPD says an autopsy was ordered and the investigation will remain open until the Louisville medical examiner provides results.
