AT&T Employees in Bowling Green on strike
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Employees at the AT&T office in Bowling Green are joining the thousands of AT&T workers on strike this week across the nine southeastern states.
Local Communication Workers of America members on strike with AT&T are picketing in front of the AT&T office at 1061 Lovers Lane.
They’ve been there all weekend, and didn’t let the rain stop them on Monday.
20-thousand AT&T members are currently on strike due what they say are unfair labor practices at the contract bargaining table in Atlanta.
The president of the local CWA says they’ve had people waiting at the bargaining table since early August trying to negotiate better wages and work conditions. Meanwhile their current contract has expired.
” A month and a half a go we lost 911 jobs to an economic surplus. They said they can’t afford to keep these people on payroll. We have two in Bowling Green that are losing their jobs. After that it happened we’re on forced overtime everyday,” said Shane Ellison, President at 3301 Communication Workers of America.
State Rep. Patti Minter, D-Bowling Gree spoke with picketers in Bowling Green at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
