Area factory holds ribbon cutting
EDMONTON, Ky. – Kentucky Congressman James Comer was in Metcalfe County Tuesday afternoon touring a new business that manufactures vital, protective clothing used in the fight against COVID-19.
American Shield Apparel in Edmonton makes personal protective gowns for healthcare facilities like hospitals and nursing homes. Some of them right here in south-central Kentucky.
Business leaders celebrating with a ribbon-cutting today with local officials and Comer. Comer says he’s happy to bring manufacturing jobs that make supplies for the healthcare industry back to the United States and provide jobs locally.
American Shield recently acquired a closed garment factory, re-hiring employees to save jobs.
The company then partnered with other area garment manufacturers to expand capacity and meet the high demand for PPE gowns.
Right now, 13 employees work at the factory.
