Anti-vaping billboard posted in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Barren River District Health Department has teamed up with local middle school students to discourage vaping in a unique way.

The Health Department has posted a new billboard on Russellville Road near the Campbell Lane intersection that features anti-vaping images designed by middle school students in the eight-country district.

Kathy Thweatt, a Health Educator II in Population Health for the Barren River District Health Department, initially came up with the idea in an attempt to stress the importance of avoiding vaping, especially for children.

“Vaping has been a huge issue for our youth, and we want to try and tackle that in a different way,” Thweatt explains. “You can only have so many presentations, teach so many classes, give out so many flyers… We wanted to have our youth teach our youth.”

The Barren River District Health Department is planning on keeping the billboard up for several months.
