Annual WKU vs. MTSU Blood Battle blood drive

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Western Kentucky University is facing off against their rival Middle Tennessee State University and this time it’s not on the football field.

Today until Wednesday, WKU is hosting their annual Blood Battle at the Preston Center.

Whichever school gets more blood donations wins. The winner will be announced at the football game against MTSU on October 15.

All blood types are needed – and walk-ins are welcome. Free reserved parking is available in Structure 2.

Some people donating today had a special connection to the cause…

“I’ve given blood in the past, I feel like it’s kind of a civic duty to do it. It really doesn’t hurt that much, doesn’t take that much time and it saves lives. On a personal note, my wife passed away about 18 months ago and that makes me even more committed to giving blood,” said blood donor Gregory Siegelman.

“The need for blood is constant. It went down a little bit during Covid so obviously we want to bring that up and it’s just a great fun way to save lives. I had two preemies so I know the need for blood is great,” said American Red Cross Account Manager Janice Prochaska.

The friendly competition has gone on for nine years in a row.
