An Ode to High School Sports throughout the 2021-22 School Year

In the heat of August, we headed out to the gridiron, where the Friday night lights had Caden Veltkamp in shotgun.

Russellville and South Warren took the trip to UK, but it was the Spartan faithful who ended up saying hooray.

Fast forward to basketball season, three top ten teams in one district for the boys; featuring Unseld, Sherrill, and McCoy.

The Warren Central Dragons took region four, storming Lexington and onto the championship floor.

While Villafuerte, Lawrence, and Whitney balled out, one costly questionable call made all the fans shout.

On the girl’s side of the floor, the Lady Purples roared past the Trojannettes taking region number 4.

While plenty of games made us bring out the popcorn, there were times this school year we had to mourn.

From the December tornadoes to the untimely passing of a Warren East friend, the community support did not end.

Baseball and softball sprang into fruition.

The Raiders stampeded while the Lady Spartans stormed.

And one of the best ways to end a season, Elly Bennett of South Warren showing why they won the region.

Buttry and Forbes won Mr. Basketball and Mr. Baseball respectively, two BG Purples ready for the next level, easily.

To all the athletes from Bowling Green, Russellville, Glasgow. Scottsville, and Franklin, it’s really you guys we have to be thanking.

Thank you so much for an amazing school year!

We can’t wait to see what comes next as august is near.
