American Legion Post 23 celebrates 100 years

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-The American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green celebrated its 100th anniversary Wednesday night.

Post 23 used this night of its meeting to look back on the service the American Legion provides to the community.

That service includes offering free van service to the Nashville area veterans healthcare services on Monday through Thursday using all volunteer van drivers.

The American Legion also offers trained service officers to assist all veterans with association claims. They also seek to help homeless veterans.

Legionnaires Don Butler and Malcolm Cherry said they’re proud to be a part of the 100-year-old organization.

“It’s a terrific legacy of service to the community not only for not only the community itself, but for our veterans,” Butler said.

“It’s fantastic, 100 years ago, at the end of World War I, it’s all coordinated pretty good. It’s a good deal,” Cherry said.

At 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sept. 4, the Bowling Green VA Clinic along with assistance from the American Legion, VFW and others will hold a cookout for Veterans Appreciation Day in the clinic parking lot in Fairview Plaza.
