America 250 presentation at Kentucky Museum, Black Material Culture

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At the Kentucky Museum on the campus of Western Kentucky University, Dr. Tiffany Momon visited to give a small presentation on her research.

Momon coming to town was a part of the America 250 campaign, a nonprofit initiative to help celebrate America’s 250th year. Momon’s presentation was on Black craftspeople, particularly those enslaved through the 18th and 19th century.

Momon, a historian, told News 40 that it’s important to celebrate and discuss black craftspeople “because why not? We’re defined by the stories we tell but also the ones we don’t…”
