Alvaton man loses 1855-era home in early morning fire

ALVATON, Ky.- Dennis Leedy was sound asleep when his historic Alvaton home caught fire early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews from the volunteer fire departments in Alvaton, Plano, Woodburn, Browning and Gott responded to the house fire at 481 Old Dearing Road around 5:25 a.m.

Leedy managed to escape with his life. He was the only occupant in the home at the time and he did not sustain injuries, according to the Plano’s fire chief Kevin Bailey.

The 2,400-square-foot house, built in 1855 burned to the ground.

The American Red Cross will be assisting Leedy with his recovery needs, according to Plano’s fire chief.
