Allen County hosts annual Back-to-School Bash at Dugas Park

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – With Allen County Schools set to start soon, the community’s annual Back to School Bash took over Dugas Park Wednesday night, with plenty of fun for the whole family.

“A bunch of the industries within the Scottsville community have all came together today and all sponsored this great event for the citizens of Allen County,” Halton HR generalist Rayleigh Holland says.

Halton is one of the main sponsors of the event, and they got in contact with Allen County Schools to put on the bash.

“They… asked what we would be able to help with and what we’ve kind of wanted to do, and what we thought about the idea of doing a back to school bash for the whole community… and we jumped on board with it as quick as we could. We thought this would be the best idea. So after that, we just kind of got together and did a lot of planning and a lot of organizing, and that’s how we’re here today,” Sarah Lockwood, Allen County Intermediate Center’s Family Resource Coordinator says.

Different organizations from around the area dropped by with plenty of goodies as the kids get ready for the new year.

“We are doing a couple of different things. We’ve got some items here that are just for free, they can just kind of come and grab. We are also doing a QR code that the families can scan when they come and visit the booth. With those things, we are giving away a cooler and multiple different crafts and activities. There’s indoor, outdoor, there’s tie dyeing, just a lot of different things just to get the family involved together. It’s things for them to kind of do together and learn and build from that,” Lockwood says.

Halton also had some school supplies to hand out to kids.

“Pens, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, Kleenex, Germ-X… so anything you could think of to go back to school is what we kind of have,” Holland says.

Both groups are excited to help students get a great start, while bringing the community together at the same time.

“No matter what size family you have, it can get very costly going back to school with all the school supplies, shoes, clothes, and then we’re just really excited we can provide this little bit for each family,” Holland says.

“With Allen County being such a small community, to see this many people being here and able to provide things for these families, it’s very heartwarming. That’s one of the reasons why I love my job anyways is because that’s what I do on a daily, and being here and seeing the whole community involved is fantastic,” Lockwood added.
