Adam Scruggs selected to fill board member seat for 2026

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – At a special called meeting on Thursday, the Logan County Board of Education selected Adam Scruggs to fill the upcoming vacancy on the board.

According to a release by Logan County Schools, the seat is currently held by Lynette Baker, who resigned from the board effective Dec. 31.

Scruggs will assume his responsibilities with the board on January 1, 2026.

After state law and interviews with applicants, the release states school board members followed a required process for selecting an individual to fill the seat for the upcoming year.

The position will appear on the November 2026 ballot to serve a two-year term ending in 2028, the release states. This will include with the end of the four-year term Baker was elected for, which began in 2025.

Board chair Tim Hall stated the following:

“We are pleased to announce that Adam Scruggs will be serving as a member of the Logan County School Board, representing the Chandler’s District. Adam brings a strong commitment to education, responsible leadership and community service to the role.”

“With deep family ties to the Chandler’s District, Adam has a meaningful personal connection to the students, families and educators it serves. His understanding of the district’s history and values, along with his dedication to its future, will help guide decisions that support the success of the Logan County School System.

“Please join us in congratulating Adam Scruggs and thanking him for his willingness to serve the Chandler’s District and the Logan County School community.”

Dr. Dan Costellow, superintendent of Logan County Schools, stated, “I look forward to Mr. Scruggs joining our board as we work together to promote and advance initiatives that support student learning, safety, well-being, and future success. Our board is committed to creating opportunities that strengthen the district and, in turn, our community. Mr. Scruggs has communicated his willingness to work collaboratively with the board and to support both Logan County Schools and the Chandler’s community.”

In addition, Scruggs shared his reaction to the decision.

Scruggs stated, “First, I am humbled and honored to be chosen to represent Chandler’s School and Community. Chandler’s School and Community hold a special place in my heart. I was born and raised in the Chandler’s community and have lived here my entire life. My grandparents, Coren and Sue Estes, were well-respected members of our community, with Sue serving at Chandler’s Elementary for 28 years. I attended Chandler’s Elementary and graduated from Logan County High School in 2003. My wife, Kayla, and I have a 12-year-old daughter, Abby, who is currently a seventh grader at Chandler’s. I own and operate Lazy E Farms Feed & Supplies in Russellville. I look forward to working with Dr. Costellow and the rest of the board to provide our students with the best possible environment and facilities to help them succeed in the classroom and in life.”
