Adair County man arrested after allegedly shooting, killing his dog

COLUMBIA, Ky. – An Adair County man was arrested after allegedly firing a weapon multiple times in a neighborhood.
According to a uniform citation, the Columbia Police Department and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to shots fired complaints at 1015 Tutt Street on the evening of Friday, April 3.
A complainant told police that the man appeared to be intoxicated and fired a weapon several times.
When officers arrived, they located 55-year-old Bradley West, of Columbia. Officers say West appeared to be under the influence.
Witnesses told police that West fired approximately 10 shots, some striking his dog. The dog was killed and West moved it to the trunk of his car. He told officers that the dog was aggressive, according to the citation.
Witnesses told police that they were “very alarmed” by West’s behavior.
Police say multiple residents told them that they never saw the dog be aggressive.
West was arrested and transported to the Adair County Jail.
He is charged with alcoholic intoxication in a public place (first and second offense), second-degree disorderly conduct and first-degree wanton endangerment – discharge of a firearm.
West is no longer listed as an active inmate on the jail’s website.
The investigation is ongoing.
