AAA on Memorial Day weekend travel this year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Memorial Day weekend is always stressful for the roads, and this year they’ll be carrying pre-pandemic levels of travel.

Lynda Lambert, a spokesperson for AAA in the East Central area told news 40 that 42.3 million people are estimated to be traveling at least 50 miles from home this year with a little over 3 million of those people taking a plane. Because of this, of course AAA recommends leaving out early or late.

Lambert said this could be the third biggest Memorial Day weekend since the year 2000 as far as travel is concerned and the TSA said recently that they’re expecting a significant increase in air traffic this year. Overall travel is up 7% this weekend according to AAA and with gas being down over a dollar from this time last year, it makes for the perfect storm to have a busy weekend on the roads.
