AAA: Labor day travelers up 22 % : Here’s where to find cheap BG gas

Travelers hitting the roads, avoiding the skies

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Labor Day travel numbers are expected to spike 22 percent higher than last year.

AAA predicts about ⅓ of Americans will hit the hottest destinations for Labor Day weekend.

This summer, many of you watching have experienced first hand the numerous flight cancellations and hours-long delays.

That, combined with still-lowering gas prices is why AAA says around 82 percent of travelers will hit the roads, and steer clear of the skies.

AAA East Central Safety Advisor Lynda Lambert says it wont stop here.

“73 percent of Americans are planning on some sort of trip this fall, whether it’s to see the fall colors or go visit families and friends on those shorter weekend trips,” she reports. “Americans are ready to get out there and make those memories with family and friends.”

Kentucky State Police are Joining Operation C.A.R.E – Crash Awareness Reduction Effort from now through this weekend.

They’re also in the middle of their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, both operations significantly upping their units on the roadways.

The KSP asks you to please slow down, leave early enough to avoid rushing, and focus on the road, not the phone.

If you do kick back with a drink, “Always have a plan,” advised  Kentucky State Police Post 3 Trooper Daniel Priddy. “Always make sure that if you know you’re going to go somewhere and consume alcoholic beverages, there’s plenty of Rideshare apps. Make sure you have that plan ahead of time and that you have a sober driver with you, because we don’t want that situation to happen.”

If you’ll be taking off from Bowling Green, GasBuddy says the cheapest gas right now is at Sam’s Club off of Ken Bale Boulevard, starting at $3.24.

Second and third by a whole dime-worth are Minit Mart and Speedway, both on Scottsville road. Those prices begin at $3.37 and $3.39, respectively.
