A recap on Duncan Hines Days
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – It was a busy week for the City of Bowling Green, and as the city winds down, we wanted to give a recap of the Duncan Hines Days numbers and impact.
“We were absolutely overjoyed at how all of this has turned out and we know the weather played a huge role in it, too, because all the things we have were outdoors and very, very weather prone.” said Telia Butler, Bowling Green’s downtown development coordinator.
According to some data Butler gave, an estimated 500 people attended the ice cream social, and 200 people showed up to the vintage car show.
Butler was elated with the turn out that was seen during the Duncan Hines Days, saying “The energy that downtown had throughout the week, that the positivity that we were getting from everyone, seeing all different ages of people, from all different walks of life, like coming down and doing things was, I guess, it’s the dream come true. You know, that’s the kind of community that we want to build.”
A lot of money moved around as well as people during the weekend. There was an estimated $2.3 million spent in the local economy, and around 16,000 people out enjoying the festivities.
Tourism numbers were high. Most notably, almost 1,000 people came to the Capitol Theater from six states to see the Dolly Parton show. Almost 9,000 people across 17 states visited the Hot Rods, and over 5,000 showed for Eats & Beats.
Butler said, “Our big, big, major sponsors and donors have already said sign us up for next year. We loved watching all of this unfold. We’re so happy with how it turned out.”
