A project to improve a section of the US 231 Scottsville Road corridor in Bowling Green has begun

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 22, 2021) – A project to improve a section of the U.S. 231 Scottsville Road corridor in Bowling Green has started. The project area for the improvements is between KY 884 Three Springs Road to the Greenwood Mall entrance at Bryant Way.

The bulk of the work will take place during the overnight hours to limit traffic impacts as much as possible. Work during daytime hours will also take place. Motorists should expect traffic disruptions, traffic delays and lane closures throughout the process. Construction crews will be working close to the roadway so motorists should use caution when traveling in this area. The project is expected to be completed in late fall of this year.

The goal of the project is to improve safety, efficiency and overall traffic flow in the area. There will be multiple intersection improvements along with traffic signal changes.

At the intersection with Cave Mill Road, dual left-turn lanes will be constructed on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road to Cave Mill Road and dual left turn lanes on Cave Mill Road to U.S. 231 Scottsville Road.

The Greenwood Mall entrance at U.S. 231 Scottsville Road will be widened to include a dedicated left turn lane, a dedicated right turn lane and a left/straight through lane.

At the intersection with Ken Bale Boulevard and KY 884 Three Springs Road, the median will be reworked to improve the alignment of the left turn lane from U.S. 231 Scottsville Road to Ken Bale Boulevard.

A new concrete median safety feature will be constructed on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road from KY 844 Three Springs Road to Pascoe Boulevard. Entrances between the signals in this section will become a right turn only.

An improvement to the traffic signal at the U.S. 231 Scottsville Road intersection with the Greenwood Square Shopping Center and the frontage road will also take place. All left turns will be eliminated except the northbound Scottsville Road left turn into the Greenwood Square Shopping Center. Exits from the frontage road and the Greenwood Square Shopping Center will be right turn only

Scotty’s Contracting & Stone LLC was awarded the contract on Dec. 18, 2020, for the amount of $4,075,899.
