Deaf women from all over the world hosting retreat in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ky.-Deaf women from all over the world are gathering in Franklin for a special retreat.

Women from Florida, Michigan and even Russia are coming together to unite as a community and show each other support.

The faith-based retreat lasts five days and is taking place at the Oasis Christian Center.

It’s a rare opportunity for women who are deaf to find the understanding and support that isn’t always available to them in their communities.

The director of the Deaf Women’s Gathering says many deaf women are isolated.

“Many women all over don’t have any support where they live at churches, schools and at work. Many deaf are very isolated and they don’t have any support. So, why not have something special,” said Mandi Dye, director at Deaf Women’s Gathering.

The retreat started Wednesday, and it ends on Sunday. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Women’s Deaf Gathering.
