Trump doubles down on McCain criticism
(NBC News) President Trump doubled down Tuesday on his recent criticism of the late Senator John McCain.
Referencing McCain’s vote against an Obamacare repeal, Mr. Trump said “I think that’s disgraceful. Plus, there are other things. I was never a fan of John McCain and I never will be.”
McCain died of cancer in August of last year, but his long-simmering feud with Mr. Trump was thrust back into the spotlight by critical tweets from the president this weekend.
During an afternoon news conference Tuesday afternoon with the president of Brazil, President Trump lashed out at social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, accusing the companies of working to silence Republicans.
“It seems to be if they’re conservative, if they’re Republicans, if they’re in a certain group, there’s discrimination and big discrimination,” Mr. Trump said.
He also suggested those companies should be held accountable for the content posted on their platforms.
“So something’s happening with those groups of folks that are running Facebook and Google and Twitter, and I do think we have to get to the bottom of it,” he said.
