Local teacher receives Kentucky Education Excellence Award from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-A local teacher went to work Wednesday morning thinking it would be a typical day. Little did she know that she was in for quite a surprise.
3rd grade reading and writing teacher at Natcher Elementary Sara Hall was called up during the school’s morning announcements to receive the Kentucky Education Excellence Award from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. She is one of only 10 teachers from across the state to get it. It comes with $2500 for the school.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is a local health insurance company. This awards program started in 2020. Since the Covid pandemic hampered the progress, Wednesday was the first time this recognition was made.
Hall was nominated by her peers. An objective third party looked over around 400 applicants and selected based on how much they went above and beyond. Hall calls the moment unbelievable.
“A little bit of disbelief. I had to second guess what I had just heard. It definitely made me a little shaky to walk down those steps, but I loved hearing their reactions and I definitely feel very honored. I just can’t believe that it happened this morning,” Hall said.
The representative from Anthem Kentucky Medicaid in attendance Leon Lamoreaux says this is a great way to further promote all educators do for the children in the area.
“Celebrating education and celebrating educators for the heroic work that they do to help train our young people growing up. That’s what this is really all about. Celebrating the great work that they’re doing,” Lamoreaux said.
