Local medical minds share presentations for Research Day 2021
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-A collaboration of medical minds came together at Western Kentucky Heart and Lung Friday morning for the inaugural Research Day 2021.
Medical students and medical personnel shared their research with other members of the medical community. Student Mallory Vaughn and her group brought in research on colon cancer.
“This has been a couple-month process of looking at the patient, at his long-term prognosis, and then doing a lot of our research as far as if anything had ever been presented like this and comparing what we found to everyone else,” Vaughn said.
The goal of research day is to give area physicians and students a chance to have their research viewed and critiqued by others in similar fields, including experts.
“It’s been a really liberating experience for us to get together and share what we’ve done for the past year and a half,” Vaughn said.
With countless hours of research put into these presentations, doctors say, the future of the medical world is bright.
“We feel so proud to have so many trainees come up with wonderful research ideas. It is a proud feeling for us,” said Dr. Aniruddha Singh from Western Kentucky Heart and Lung.
“The students, residents and fellows really worked hard. I’m proud to see their presentations and hear what they’ve done,” added Dr. Mohammed Kazimuddin, assistant dean of the UK College of medicine.
Doctors call it a good sign for the next generation, as they’ll be in great hands as these researchers go on to the medical world.
