Victor Martinez’s colt out of Kentucky Derby because of fever

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — It’s wait ‘til next year for former Major League Baseball catcher Victor Martinez in the Kentucky Derby. The colt he owns named King Guillermo has a fever and won’t run in the 146th Derby on Saturday. Martinez, a five-time All-Star catcher, had been anticipating having a Derby horse since King Guillermo moved into the picture in March. The colt had been training at Churchill Downs for a month in preparation for the race. Martinez calls his colt’s scratch from the race “a sad part about this game.” The colt’s trainer says it’s possible King Guillermo could return in time for next month’s Preakness.
