Bowling Green schools superintendent tests positive for COVID-19

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After both a positive COVID-19 antibody test and a positive polymerase chain reaction test administered by Graves Gilbert Clinic staff, Bowling Green Independent Schools Superintendent Gary Fields is in self quarantine, according to a post he made on Twitter Tuesday that was shared on the school district’s Facebook page.

“Although it is not my practice or general obligation to share my personal health status with our school community, these are different times and I want you to be aware of my medical situation,” Fields wrote.

Fields said in the statement he is asymptomatic, his family has tested negative and he will remain in self quarantine through Aug. 23.

“Our office has maintained social distancing practices and masking efforts and thus, no district employees are considered at risk,” he said. “Although I am unable to be in our schools this week, I am confident in the work of our district leadership team, our school principals, and all of the outstanding BGISD team members throughout the district as we prepare to open our schools.”
