JK Rowling responds to critics over her transgender comments

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling says she refuses to “bow down” to criticism about her recent comments about transgender people. Rowling published a post on her blog website Wednesday in response to the backlash and her concerns over “new trans activism.” She has been under hefty scrutiny about her thoughts on transgender identity from the LGBTQ community along with Eddie Redmayne and Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in the Harry Potter film franchise. Redmayne disagreed with Rowling’s comments on Twitter. The actor says that his transgender friends and colleagues are tired of the “constant questioning of their identities.” Radcliffe says “transgender women are women” on a website for a nonprofit dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ people.
