New year, new Top Cop – Hightower begins as Warren County Sheriff
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Brett Hightower’s first day on the job as Warren County Sheriff was a memorable one.
Hightower, who defeated the longtime incumbent, Jerry “Peanuts” Gaines in November’s election, started on the job at the stroke of midnight.
He tells WNKY he went out with deputies on several calls overnight, in addition to a vehicle pursuit in Warren County Tuesday morning.
According to the new Sheriff, his top priority is to listen to the people of Warren County. He says listening is always the key to success.
As for getting back in uniform, the former Bowling Green Police Officer says it was a piece of cake.
“It’s like riding a bike. Once you’ve learned how to ride it, getting back in the cruiser, uniform, answering calls, listening to radio traffic and responding, is almost second nature,” Hightower said. “It felt very comfortable.”
One of Hightower’s priorities is to start community meetings, where residents can address their concerns in an open forum.
