State police investigate fire death in Hart County

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon fatal residential fire in Hart County.

Police were called to the scene on Bennett Road in the Summersville community near the county line at 2:18 p.m. after a deceased person was found in a detached building that had been destroyed by fire. KSP troopers and detectives found an unidentified adult in the debris.

The adjacent home was unoccupied at not damaged by the fire, according to a release from KSP.

The coroner pronounced the person dead following removal of the body. The cause of death was unknown as of 11:07 p.m. Tuesday. The body was taken for an autopsy at a state medical examiner’s office in Louisville Wednesday.

Wednesday, authorities identified the deceased as Freddie Wells, Sr., 67. He was the resident of the property.
