Replica of Marine One to land soon at Bowling Green’s Aviation Heritage Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A replica of the United States President’s helicopter, Marine One, will soon be on display at Bowling Green’s Aviation Heritage Park.
Thursday morning, Warren County magistrates unanimously approved a loan from the United States Navy for a Sikorsky H-3 helicopter.
The helicopter is currently located in Florida.
The chopper will be on display at the Aviation Heritage Park, to honor the late Marine Colonel, Mac Reynolds, who was a Bowling Green resident and flew Marine One for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton.
According to Aviation Heritage Park President, Joe Tinius, the chopper should arrive this spring and then the work begins.
“We are going to have to do some restoration work to get it to those colors of Marine One and also do some interior work to have it look like Marine One,” said Tinius.
The H-3 helicopter will be the park’s 8th plane or helicopter on display.
After the restoration work, Tinius says it should be ready for installation in June 2020.
