Travelers take to the roads, skies and rails for the holidays

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Christmas is Tuesday which means many Americans are traveling to be with family.

Thursday is predicted to be the nation’s busiest travel day, according to AAA.

More than one-third of Americans are estimated to be traveling this holiday season.

Some 112.5 million people will be traveling the roads, skies and rails for the holidays.

That’s a 4.4 percent increase over the last year and the most since AAA began tracking holiday travel.

More than 102 million people will be traveling to their holiday destinations by car.

You may also see an increase in traffic locally due to holiday travel.

“The holidays are always a busy time in Bowling Green too. I think you can tell by the traffic you see around town. A lot of folks, their families are probably already in from out of town. It feels like once the college kids clear out that everybody’s family comes back home. There is a lot of hustle and bustle going on in Bowling Green,” Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau spokeswoman Beth Noffsinger said.

The holiday travel period began Dec. 22 and ends Jan. 1.
