Warren County School District launches a spring break at home site

Bryan Newman is a third grader at Jennings Creek Elementary School in Warren County.  It may not look like it, but he’s spending his spring break in outer space.

It’s made possible through newly launched website called Five Days Around the World. Newman says he’s over the moon about this program.

“It’s really fun and really cool to like, go places while I have to stay at home. I really enjoy it,” Newman said.

The site, created by the Warren County School District, gives students a chance to roam the Great Wall of China, and spend some time in the rain forest, all from the safety and comfort of home, a different area opens each day.

“We got really excited about it. It’s a team effort between the tech department, the academic coaches, really just to say, we can be creative, fun, and offer something different during a really weird time of year,” said Warren County School District elementary literacy consultant Kate Wintuska.

With just a few clicks, students can explore new areas and partake in trivia, and educational videos. Something they’re grateful for.

“I’m really thankful for Warren County for giving us awesome opportunities to go to China and other countries that I’ll never get to visit,” said North Warren Elementary fifth grader Embry Hayes.

While it all takes place at home, Newman said this is one spring break he’ll never forget.

“I could do it every day. I really enjoy it, and I could do it for my whole life probably,” Newman said.

Students who aren’t enrolled in the Warren County School district can still participate in this program. The link can be accessed here: https://sites.google.com/warren.kyschools.us/wcpsadventure/home.
