St. Pat’s Dash raises money to end human trafficking
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Even with so many events being cancelled over the weekend, one organization kept their event on the calendar.
Phoenix Rising KY held its annual Saint Pat’s Dash in Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green to raise money and awareness for their organization.
Phoenix Rising KY works to raise awareness of and fight human trafficking.
According to Lisa Pitts, the public relations director with Phoenix Rising KY, human trafficking is a big problem in south central Kentucky, due in part to a major interstate passing through the region as well as social media.
Interstate 65 is known as a major north-south corridor for the transport of victims of modern day slave traders. Many of these victims are children used for labor and in most cases sex trafficking.
Pitts was grateful to see people attend the event to support the fight against human trafficking.
This is the third year for the 5K, and the race raised $1200, topping the goal by $200.
