Read Across America celebration combines crafts and books
GLASGOW, Ky.- March 2 kicks off Read Across America week. Schools and libraries all over the nation are both celebrating and emphasizing the impact of reading.
The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial library in Glasgow is combining that celebration with the commemoration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, which is also March 2.
In 2020, Dr. Seuss would be turning 115 years old. To celebrate, kids can visit the library all week long to not only read books by the author but also create crafts based on the books.
The library’s youth service manager, Kelly Bowles, said continuing to read is important, especially in the lives of young children.
“Reading is so important, especially with young kids. They even say in the womb, kids start developing language skills. Also, it broadens kid’s horizons,” Bowles said.
