Britain’s health service not for sale in US free-trade talks

LONDON (AP) — The British government says any free-trade deal with the United States must protect the country’s national health service. The commitment came as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government published an outline Sunday of its negotiating objectives for the transatlantic deal. The British government estimates its economy will get a 3.4 billion-pound ($4.3 billion) boost from a free-trade deal. It says trade between the close allies will increase by 15.3 billion pounds ($19.6 billion) if trade barriers between the United Kingdom and the United States are removed. Talks are scheduled to start later this month.
