Louisville police officer seriously injured in accident

Last night, a Louisville Metro Police Officer was involved in a serious accident that required him to be cut out of his car.

The head-on collision left the police car mangled on the street.

The officer was headed eastbound on Bardstown Road, without his lights on, when he collided with a black SUV going the other direction.

Police confirmed to local news outlets that the officer was trapped in his cruiser and had to be cut out of the car.

The unidentified officer was reportedly alert and conscious when he was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Both he and the other driver are expected to be okay.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
