COVINGTON, Ky. – A Boone County man now faces 54 months in prison after authorities say he concealed a gun on high school property.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky, 21-year-old Landman Strong was sentenced to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Officials say Strong previously pleaded guilty to possessing firearms while being an unlawful user of/addicted to controlled substances.

According to officials, on October 8, 2025, authorities responded to Walton Verona High School after multiple reports of an individual with a weapon on campus. Officials say witnesses and surveillance footage showed a male with long, black hair and dressed in black concealing a gun on school property.

Several schools in the area locked down as a result, according to officials.

The attorney’s office says law enforcement identified, located and detained Strong, who admitted to hiding guns in the woods near the school and showed authorities where they were located.

According to officials, deputies found multiple loaded guns, ammunition and clothing Strong was wearing, along with fentanyl pills and a small amount of marijuana on Strong.

The attorney’s office says Strong stated he had bought one of the guns from a friend.

Officials say Strong additionally admitted to being addicted to fentanyl. A search of Strong’s residence resulted in the discovery of another gun, more ammunition, blue pills, Alprazolam tablets and drug paraphernalia.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
