Man arrested and tased after cutting fiber lines, police say

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Saturday, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Spectrum claiming a man was stealing fiber cable on Morgantown Road.
When police responded, they located the truck and trailer reported and began following it.
The driver, Matthew Martin, immediately pulled over when the deputy got behind him, but then, according to the citation, he began fleeing on foot.
The deputy deployed his Taser because, the citation says, Martin ran onto the roadway where traffic was present, creating a danger for himself and the deputy.
According to the citation, Martin admitted to having drugs on him and said he had cut the fiber lines to ‘make ends meet’.
Upon searching Martin’s person and car, the deputy claims he found marijuana, a pipe with methamphetamine residue, and Martin admitted to smoking meth earlier that day, according to the citation.
Martin was taken to the Med Center, where he was found to have a broken collarbone.
He was then taken to the Warren County Regional Jail and charged with trespassing of key infrastructure assets, theft by unlawful taking between $500 and $1000, possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
The citation states that the line that was cut was confirmed to be an AT&T fiber line servicing approximately 12,000 individuals in the area.
