BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is now formally charged with offenses tied to the death of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips.

According to court documents, an indictment was filed on Thursday, Oct. 1, formally charging 51-year-old Emonnie Branch, of Portland, Tennessee with murder of a first responder (peace officer), tampering with physical evidence and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

The charges stem from the death of 28-year-old Phillips, who died after shots were fired during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Warren County on Monday, Sept. 28, authorities say.

Following an hours-long pursuit, authorities say Branch was captured in Louisville and later transported to the Warren County Regional Jail, where he remains incarcerated.

Branch appeared in court for arraignment on Tuesday. News 40 will provide additional details on this case as they become available.
