Glasgow firefighters respond to fire at YMCA

GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow units responded Wednesday morning to a reported fire at the Barren County Family YMCA.

According to the Glasgow Fire Department, fire crews responded to a fire alarm activation at the YMCA.

Upon arrival, firefighters say flames were visible from a window at the front of the building. Units reportedly broke the window close to the flames and extinguished the fire.

The department says a sprinkler system prevented the flames from spreading until fire units arrived. The fire, along with most of the smoke and water damage, was contained to the room of origin, according to fire officials.

According to the department, units were on scene for just over an hour and were assisted by the Glasgow Police Department and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, the department says.
