Indiana man arrested after fleeing police, found hanging onto bridge in Daviess County, police say

MACEO, Ky. – An Indiana man is facing several charges after allegedly fleeing police and hanging under the William H. Natcher Bridge.

According to Kentucky State Police, a trooper conducted a traffic stop for speeding at the intersection of Iceland Spur and US 60 in Daviess County Sunday afternoon.

The trooper says 32-year-old Christopher Knabel, of Tell City, Indiana, fled the scene on foot into a heavily wooded area.

Authorities began searching for Knabel and received a report of a man walking on the William H. Natcher Bridge.

KSP says Kentucky Fish and Wildlife launched a boat onto the Ohio River and located Knabel holding onto a beam underneath the bridge.

Authorities shut down US-231 in both directions as officers attempted to speak with Knabel.

KSP says Knabel climbed back up to the top of the bridge and attempted to flee. Knabel was arrested.

Knabel is charged with operating motor vehicle under the influence of controlled substance 1st degree, operating on suspended/revoked operator license, fleeing and evading 3rd degree, failure to produce insurance card, and speeding and served two outstanding unrelated warrants.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Spencer County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
