1 dead, 1 critically injured after Laurel County crash

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) and the London Police Department are investigating a fatal crash.

According to Sheriff John Root, an LCSO reconstructionist is assisting the London Police Department in the investigation of the crash that happened on East 4th Street Thursday afternoon.

Investigators say that a Dodge pickup truck, driven by 48-year-old Michael Williams, was traveling westbound and was waiting to make a left turn on E 4th Street. A Ford F250 pulling a trailer, driven by 31-year-old Travis Gaskin of London, was unable to stop and struck the Dodge pickup truck in the rear.

Authorities say the Ford F250 traveled into the eastbound lane after an attempt to avoid the rear-end collision and struck a Chrysler Medallion head-on. The trailer struck the Dodge pickup truck.

Root says the Chrysler was driven by 69-year-old Timothy Edwards of East Bernstadt. Edwards was airlifted to UK Med Center in Lexington, where he was later pronounced dead.

Edwards’s passenger, 67-year-old Susan Edwards, also of East Bernstadt, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to UK Center for treatment.

Gasking was transported for possible injuries. Williams was uninjured.

Root says the road was closed for two hours while investigators reconstructed the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
