BGPD holds Open House for potential Officers, Dispatchers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – The Bowling Green Police Department hosted an open house Tuesday night, giving potential applicants an opportunity to learn more about working for the department and training to become an officer or dispatcher.

The event was held at the David Whitson Public Safety Training Center. Attendees could tour the facility, meet training staff and officers, and ask questions about the application process and careers with the department.

Deputy Chief Penny Bowles said the open house also gives potential applicants a chance to learn about specialized assignments available within the department.

BGPD’s special assignments include the Critical Response Team, Collision Reconstruction and Honor Guard.

Bowles said meeting officers and seeing the training facility can help people determine whether the career and department are the right fit for them.

The department is currently accepting applications for its 12th class, which is scheduled to begin in April 2027.

BGPD expects to hold another open house around May or June as it begins the application process for its 13th class.
