Hart County Senior Center celebrates National Senior Center Month

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. — September is National Senior Center Month, and in Hart County, local seniors say their center provides much more than activities and programs — it provides friendship and a sense of community.

The Hart County Senior Center is one of 13 senior centers operated by the Barren River Area Development District across its 10-county region.

The center gives older adults an opportunity to stay active, continue learning and build relationships with others in their community.

Programs range from physical health and safety lessons to mental health seminars and other activities designed to support seniors’ overall well-being.

For 84-year-old Mary Calloway, who has attended the Hart County Senior Center for a couple of years, the friendships she has made have become one of the most important parts of her life.

“This place has saved my life,” Calloway said. “I was sitting there so lonesome. I’m not lonesome anymore. I’ve got people I love. I love everyone here. They’re good to you.”

Calloway said the center has now become a regular part of her life.

“It’s just my life now, and I love it,” she said.

As BRADD celebrates National Senior Center Month, the organization is also asking community members to help support the services its centers provide.

All 13 senior centers across BRADD’s 10-county region are currently seeking volunteers. Those interested can complete an online volunteer application through BRADD’s volunteer application.

The Hart County Senior Center is located at 509 A.A. Whitman Lane in Munfordville.
