Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County celebrates 20 Years of serving local youth

LUCAS, Ky. (WNKY) – The Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County is celebrating two decades of providing programs and opportunities for local children.

CEO Mallie Boston said the club serves children ages 5 to 18 through after-school programs and summer camp, offering tutoring, hot meals and other resources aimed at helping students succeed.

“We’re getting to celebrate tonight obviously, because we’ve been in operation for 20 years,” Boston said.

Boston has been with the organization for 14 years and said the community’s continued support has helped the club grow.

“A nonprofit of our size and a community for 20 years is just an absolute gift that the community is invested in us in the capacity they have,” she said.

The club is entering its 20th year with an expansion underway, including a new gymnasium project that began in recent weeks.

Boston said one of the organization’s biggest milestones was purchasing its first standalone facility, made possible by a gift from Ambassador Craft.

“We have no glass ceiling now,” Boston said. “Anything that we do in our club is totally possible based on what our board and our staff want to see next.”

Boston said the goal is to continue giving young people opportunities to recognize their potential.

“Our kids are taking us and just having unlimited possibilities and people behind us to make them happen,” she said. “That’s what’s special.”
