Warren County issues burn ban due to dry conditions

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WNKY) – Warren County officials have issued a countywide ban on outdoor burning as dry conditions increase the risk of wildfires.

Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman issued the order Wednesday, following a recommendation from the Bowling Green Fire Department and Warren County Fire Department fire chiefs.

The order bans all open burning throughout Warren County, including the city of Bowling Green. It also prohibits lighting fireworks and burning any material outdoors.

Officials say a lack of measurable rainfall in recent weeks has left grasslands, woodlands, lawns and shrubbery unusually dry, creating an increased risk of wildfires.

The ban takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

Under Kentucky law, violations of the order can result in a fine of at least $50 and no more than $500.

Residents should avoid all outdoor burning until the ban is lifted. Edmonson County is also under a burn ban.
