Bowling Green man charged with DUI after collision

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is behind bars on multiple charges after allegedly crashing while under the influence.

According to a uniform citation, Bowling Green police responded Thursday night to a reported injury collision in front of Five Star at 1847 Cave Mill Road.

Authorities say they made contact with 50-year-old Richard Cook of Bowling Green.

Police say Cook stated he had an active warrant and admitted to consuming two alcoholic beverages while driving home from work.

Following Standard Field Sobriety Testing, police say they found two open Buzz Ball drinks in Cook’s vehicle.

Cook was placed into custody and transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Green for medical clearance. While at the hospital, authorities say Cook stated he had tried to make a left turn off of Cave Mill Road when a passenger vehicle struck his vehicle.

Cook further stated he had a 9-year-old and the child’s father as passengers during the collision, authorities say.

Authorities say the 9-year-old was transported for treatment.

Cook is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle prohibited, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, no operators moped license, failure to wear seat belts and failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security.
