Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force investigating reported Snapchat threats sent to students
ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – The Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force says it responded to a school in Allen County Thursday morning after multiple students reported receiving threatening messages on Snapchat.
According to the agency, detectives made contact with multiple victims, obtained information about the messages and began working to identify the individual or individuals responsible.
Detectives say they have contacted Snapchat through its law enforcement portal and submitted an emergency request for information.
The agency says the accounts involved have been preserved, and detectives are working to obtain search warrants for additional information and evidence. Authorities say they also expect to reach out to federal law enforcement partners for assistance as the investigation continues.
The crime task force states the school itself was not threatened, however, multiple students received similar threatening messages through Snapchat.
Authorities say any threat involving students “is taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.”
The agency says it was assisted by Allen County Schools and school resource officers.
