Bowling Green man accused of robbing post office, police say

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – A Bowling Green man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly robbed a post office on Scottsville Road while indicating he had a gun, according to police.

The robbery was reported shortly after 4 p.m.

Police said the man allegedly entered the post office, indicated he had a gun and demanded money. He was wearing sunglasses and a face covering at the time, according to authorities.

The clerk complied with the man’s demands, and he allegedly left the area on foot.

Responding officers were quickly able to review surveillance footage from a nearby business. The footage allegedly showed the man inside the business without his face covered, and an officer recognized him from previous interactions, police said.

While officers searched the area, another business reported that a man had locked himself inside a bathroom. That man left before officers arrived.

A second business then reported that a man was inside its bathroom. Officers located the man and took him into custody.

Police identified the man as Luke H. Bailey, 32, of Bowling Green. Bailey was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Warren County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.

Under 18 U.S.C. § 2114, federal charges could also be brought in the case, though no federal charges have been announced. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigates crimes involving the postal system, including robberies of postal facilities, and can present cases to federal prosecutors.

The investigation remains ongoing.
