Byrd verbally commits to WKU, set to play for Coach Plona

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hilltopper men’s basketball has had a consistent local pipeline since head coach Hank Plona took over, and the trend is set to continue after a recent verbal commitment from one Warren Central Dragon senior.

Combo guard Armani Byrd shared via social media on Friday evening that he is ‘1000%’ committed to the Hill.

Byrd, listed at a towering 6’8″, has been a staple of Central’s success in recent years with showstopping swats and high-flying slams.

Averaging 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a night this past season, he helped the Dragons to a 4th Region Championship victory over district foe South Warren.

Following the announcement, a potential WCHS reunion is in store, with former Dragon great Kade Unseld currently on the roster at WKU entering his redshirt sophomore season.

The pair spent some time together on the court during the 2023-2024 season, which was also a 4th Region Championship year for the Dragons.

While Byrd’s still got one more season to show off for his school, he now has set up a bright future close to home where he’ll get to play in front of many friends and family on the historic court of Diddle Arena.
