Man charged with DUI after alleged hit-and-run in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is facing charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision in Bowling Green.
According to a uniform citation, Bowling Green police responded to a reported hit-and-run collsion Saturday night near East 13th Avenue and College Street.
Police say a caller stated a minivan had hit a parked truck and fled the scene.
Authorities say the caller further stated the minivan had lost its front bumper and continued driving toward Western Kentucky University.
According to police, another caller stated the vehicle had pulled into the parking lot of a Dollar General, and the male driver, along with other occupants of another vehicle, were “running aorund the vehicle.”
Officers say they stopped the vehicle and spoke to a female driver in the van, who stated the male passenger had been driving before police arrived.
Authorities say the female driver showed no signs of impairment and returned to her other vehicle.
The male subject, identified as 23-year-old Gustavo Mendez, was detained.
Authorities say Mendez admitted to driving the van and that he had consumed several alcoholic drinks that evening.
According to the citation, Mendez showed multiple signs of impairment.
Mendez was placed into custody and transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for a blood sample before being taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.
He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance, no operators – moped license and failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance/security.
